Juvederm Voluma XC

Juvederm Voluma XC

Hyaluronic acid filler engineered for deep structural lift in the midface, lateral cheek, and chin. Highest G-prime and lift capacity in the Juvederm Vycross family. FDA-approved for cheek augmentation with results lasting up to two years.

What it is

Juvederm Voluma XC is a hyaluronic acid (HA) gel in the Juvederm Vycross family — Allergan’s structural filler. It has the highest G-prime (resistance to deformation) and the highest lift capacity in the Juvederm range, which is what makes it the right tool for restoring lost projection at the bone level.

FDA-approved for cheek augmentation with clinical data demonstrating results lasting up to twenty-four months — and for chin augmentation with results lasting up to twelve months. Among the longest-lasting HA fillers on the market for this indication.

Voluma’s job is structural. Placed correctly, it lifts the midface from below, supports the lateral cheek, and adds projection to a recessed chin. Placed incorrectly — too superficial, too lateral, too much volume — it produces the puffy, over-filled look that has given filler a bad reputation. The product is not the problem; placement is.

How Dr. Brown approaches it

Voluma at Esvie is selected when the anatomic target is structural lift — most commonly the lateral cheek apex, the medial midface (often the cause of a downstream nasolabial fold), the prejowl sulcus, and the chin.

Dr. Brown evaluates bone projection, midface descent, and the rate of volume loss before naming a syringe count. Placement is deep — periosteal or supraperiosteal — using cannula or needle depending on anatomic zone. The goal is to lift the structure, not to fill the surface; surface fullness without underlying support is the look most patients are trying to avoid.

Typical first treatment uses one to two syringes per side for cheek and midface restoration. Chin projection typically uses one to two syringes total. These are starting ranges; some anatomy needs more, some needs less, and Dr. Brown will say which.

Every syringe is placed by Dr. Brown. The midface contains the angular and infraorbital arteries; only a physician injector should be in this anatomy.

What to expect

Day of treatment: Topical numbing for ~20 minutes. Voluma XC contains lidocaine for placement comfort. Treatment runs 30–45 minutes.

Immediately after: Lift is visible right away. Mild swelling at injection sites is normal for 24–72 hours. Bruising risk exists; cheek bruises typically resolve within 7–10 days.

Two weeks: Filler integrates with surrounding tissue. The result settles into final position. The two-week look is the result you booked for.

Aftercare: Avoid pressing or massaging treated areas for one week. Sleep on your back if comfortable for the first night. No strenuous exercise or alcohol for twenty-four hours.

Candidacy

Good candidates have midface or lateral cheek volume loss, a recessed chin or weak chin projection, or a flattening jawline that needs structural support. Patients in their late thirties through seventies with bony resorption or descended midface support are typical Voluma candidates.

Not a candidate if your concern is lip volume (use Volbella, Ultra, or Ultra Plus depending on goal). Not a candidate for tear troughs (use Volbella). Not a candidate if you are pregnant or nursing or have active skin infection at the planned site.

If Voluma is not the right product for you, Dr. Brown will name the one that is. For patients who want gradual structural restoration that builds over months and lasts longer, Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid biostimulator) may be the better long-term tool. Often the right plan is Voluma now for the lift, Sculptra over the next year for the collagen.
